Death  ~  Inspiring positive excerpts from selected Bible passages on the subject of death:
  • God said, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn and live. -Ezekiel 33:11
  • The Psalmist said, Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. -Psalm 23:4
  • Christ died to set us free from sin, death, and hell.
  • Life can only be enjoyed as one acquires a true perspective of life and death and of the real purpose of life.
  • We are confident and pleased to be absent from the body and present with the Lord. -2 Corinthians 5:8
  • Christianity is the only faith that defines afterlife with specific details. For Christians, physical death is just a temporary end of the life of the body. God created humans to live forever, both physically and spiritually. But once sin entered the world, both body and spirit were subject to death. It became necessary for both to be reborn. Spiritual rebirth takes place at the time of faith in Christ. Physical rebirth will occur at the resurrection or the Rapture. Christians have no reason to fear death since their conscious spirit will always be in the presence of the Lord. Fear of death is removed by faith in God and in the Christ of the Resurrection.
  • Nothing is certain but death. It is appointed to all, once to die. -Hebrews 9:27 In a garden, harvest happens when plants are fully nourished to achieve the bountiful fruit that God intended. Life and health also require good stewardship. God expects us to care for both our physical life and our spiritual life.
  • God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid. -Isaiah 12:1-3 - Armageddon denotes the end of the world. But after that, for God's family there will be no more tears, no more death, no more sorrow, no more crying, no more pain. For true believers, there will also be no more fear or anxiety. Christ came to banish fear. If you truly trust God, then you need not be afraid.
  • The wages of sin is death -Romans 3:23; 6:23. But Jesus gave Himself for our sins so that He might deliver us from this present evil age. Sin has the devil for its father, shame for its companion, and death for its wages.
  • It is not the will of your Father in heaven that any one of these little ones should perish. -Matthew 18:10-14 - The death of a child is inexplicable. We cannot understand it. But we can trust God who assures us that every life is precious, every soul is eternal, and every departed child is safe in His arms. Jesus once said of the young girl in Galilee who had died, "She is not dead, but sleeping" -Luke 8:52 - cf. 2 Samuel 12:23
  • life goes on for eternity. cf. Ecclesiastes 3:11. God created man to live forever, but death entered with sin -Romans 5:12. Yet we can live forever through faith in Christ who cancelled out our debt of sin. Thank God for the privilege of living forever with Him. Eternity is the lifetime of the Almighty.
  • O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory? -1 Corinthians 15:55 -Philippians 1:20-26 - Some people are so afraid to die that they never begin to live. Death may comes with suffering and separation, and sometimes with regrets and unfulfilled dreams. For every child of God, though, the sting of death is removed by Christ. Beyond separation and loss is hope eternal. It is possible to live even though we die -John 11:25-26. The best way to live is to look forward optimistically to both life and to death through faith in Christ. When your head is in heaven, you need not fear grave.
  • Jesus came to our rescue. He humbled himself, left His home in glory, and lived as one of us. It was the only way to rescue us from death and lead many to glory -Hebrews 2:10.
  • I am persuaded that neither death nor life nor height nor depth shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. -Romans 8:37-39 - God loves you when you are nothing, accepts you just the way you are, and loves you with an everlasting love that can transform you into His image. Nothing can separate you from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Why are you cast down, O my soul? Hope in God. -Psalm 42:11. We cannot slip out of the grip of God's grace. No one can snatch us out of His hand -John 10:28.
  • The Rapture - We who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. -1 Thessalonians 4:17 -John 14:1-3 - The death of a loved one through prolonged illness, memory impairment, or unexpected trauma is a life-changing experience. God sees each tear and hears each cry, yet He also knows of the joyful reunion that awaits true believers. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet, the dead will be raised incorruptible. -1 Corinthians 15:52. The imagery of the Rapture is significant. In biblical times ambassadors were sent to usher a visiting king into a city. That is what God has planned for those who believe. He will send Jesus to escort the living and those who have gone to sleep (died) into heaven, never to be separated again. Thus we need not be in sorrow when death separates us from loved ones who love and are devoted to the Lord. For they are not without a secure future. The cross removed the sting of death that otherwise permanently separates. Focus on the destiny that awaits believers, for death is a good and excellent passing for true believers who will certainly see joy in the morning.
  • Eternal life is a never-ending expression of God's love. God's love promises that we will not perish but have everlasting life. -John 3:16. Eternal life does not begin with death. It begins with faith.
